By Gammy

As Summer Healing Sessions continue, we’re pulling more revelation and wisdom from every side of the table. Many times the knowledge we need is right in front of us, wrapped in the lessons learned throughout our lifetime. Wisdom comes off the back of good and bad decisions, right and wrong turns, plot twists, and chapters in our story that happened FOR US to teach us something meaningful.

The most important thing to acknowledge is that the holidays are a complicated time that need simple and supportive solutions.

One of the greatest gifts from the Red Table is having a multi-generational conversation about life lessons in a safe space where we can each learn from one another. This week, we’re getting our wisdom from the matriarch of the table, Gammy. Gammy, Jada’s mom and Willow’s grandmother, has brought so much seasoning and spice to the table, introducing wisdom, grace, joy, and redemption as she honors her journey through healing.

We asked Gammy four key questions that have come to the table from sisters and brothers such as yourself, with hopes that you’ll unlock something fresh to help move you through your personal journey.

Here’s part 1 of what Gammy had to share with us:

RTT Family: Gammy, we have young sisters and brothers at the table who are now saying “I matter” as a result of Summer Healing Session Week 1. We all know that many people are taking their first stab at figuring life out in their early 20s. It can be a tough season as many people feel they’re facing more questions than answers. What is one message you would communicate to 21 yr old Adrienne?

Gammy: I would tell my 21-year-old self the same thing I’m telling myself today…

It’s OK. You don’t have to be so fearful. Everybody is in the same boat, just trying to figure it out (life). You are who you are, and as long as you keep trying to grow and be better, you are good enough! Oh, and try to listen to your mother. She wants only the very best for you. I wish I had done that!

Gammy’s wisdom reminds us that we don’t have to be afraid of the twists and turns because we are not alone. Everyone we meet along the way is in a place of discovery and revelation.

As Paul Ferrini states, “Move in the wind. Your life is a dance. It is neither good nor bad. It is a movement, a continuum. Your choice is a simple one. You can dance or not. Deciding not to dance will not remove you from the dance floor. The dance will continue around you.”

Owning our identity and showing up strong each day gives us the power to recognize how much we matter and dance on life’s great dance floor.
